The artist Felipe Yung (Flip) has been working with urban art since the 1990s. With this, he creates characters, imaginary beings, occupying the streets of cities in Brazil and around the world. Flip often experiences large-scale graffiti on the buildings columns. Specially invited to occupy the 1,900 m² of Mauá Saloon, Flip presents us Siga flutuando (“Keep on flowing” in free translation). To match the superlative dimensions of the space, his inflatable sculpture is approximately eight meters high and nine meters in diameter.
With obvious references to oriental drawings and engravings, aquatic beings have been researched by Flip. Above all, the jellyfish. We then see, in the immense blue room, the challenge faced in such a peculiar way by jellyfish: to keep floating. Let us remember that jellyfish are also called medusa, beings that are characterized by giant tentacles extensions, topped by a body that is entirely translucent. Thus, luminous and strident colors are captured by cnidarians, their scientific name.
Thinking about the bottom of the sea brought us closer to the artist, just as it reminded us of Santa Rosa in the hotel-casino swimming pool. Here, the Quitandinha's 80th anniversary is celebrated, keeping the boldness, looking at the installation; all of it, a challenge. Think, create stories and invite the public to discover, through art, the multiple possibilities of an extravagant nature. And, consciously, as the artist is interested in, reflecting on possible natural imbalances when there is an excessive presence of jellyfish in the sea.
